All the feelings about the end of my five-year diary. The events it has marked! The drama it contains! The wails of despair about the state of UK politics it has witnessed!

I'm tired of air raids, but what about those who are sitting in the cold trenches Meanwhile, the russians are making detailed plans for how they will torment us until 2026 and beyond: t.ly/dSr1Y How can Ukrainians develop and in such circumstances Of course, , but how many Ukrainian academic lives will these russian scum ruin with impunity

And the start of my 2024 journal. The "year at a glance" page, plus places to record all the books, games, movies, and crafts I've read/played/watched/made. Then the first monthly summary spread of the year for January. :) Starting with my favourite colours to work in, the greens. <3

The last couple of layouts for 2023, with lots of pages left for a long reflect if I want. :) I'm glad I didn't run out of pages before the end of the year!

"If unity is impossible to the writer, who is a sea of spiritual protoplasm, capable of flowing in all directions, of engulfing every object in its path, of trickling in every crevice, of filling every hole, at least truth is possible in the confession of our insincerities. But at times, what my mind engenders fictionally I enrich with true feeling and I am taken in, in good faith, by my own inventions.

Henry said I had broken him down with my talk of 'destine intrieure', as if I were working on him the emotional cycle of analysis: confidence, understanding, love, strength, independence. My talk about sincerity, the joys of repose in complete confidence, the human relief of depending on another all this upset him, hit the mark. I talked emotionally about the flow of confidence developed in analysis such as one cannot have even with the loved one. How the analysis taps hidden and secret sources. How the aim of analysis resembles the old Chinese definition of wisdom: wisdom being the destruction of idealism. The basis of insincerity is the idealized image we hold of ourselves and wish to impose on othersan admirable image. When this is broken down by the analyst's discoveries, it is a relief because this image is always a great strain to live up to. Some consider the loss of it a cause for suicide."

My small family and I were living in a spacious detached red brick house in an estate where there were clearly people living who were quite well off. There was a small front garden and a generous back garden with mainly well kept grass sloping down a hill. To the sides of the garden there were other houses and their gardens and at the bottom there was a wall and a red brick shed with a low unlockable gate next to it. The gate was leading to a back lane where people could drive to their garages at the bottom of their gardens. On the other side of the lane were a few more houses and a small river. It was well frequented by pedestrians and ramblers as it led out into the countryside. All of this looked very idyllic.

We hadnt been living there all that long and were perplexed by people who kept entering our back garden to do something there, like playing sports and everyone seemed to think that was perfectly fine. It appeared that they also regularly mowed the lawn. We had been too busy with our move to really confront anybody yet.

This morning a man came up to the house (from the back) and talked to my husband, saying he needed to take a look at some piping in the cellar under the back of the house. My good-natured husband let him in and got a few cursory explanations of what was going on but when I asked him about it he couldnt really explain to me what the man was doing there.

In the meantime more people had arrived. They wandered up from the back too, into our big hallway, discussed something, put some lace decorations on the stairway wall and generally ignored us who were living there. I tried to talk to the guy in the cellar and was told I needed a torch to join him down there, otherwise it would be unsafe. Off I went looking for my mobile phone which didnt have much power left when I found it. I started searching for my power bank when I realised that now also a big tent was in the process of being erected over our back garden.

I started asking questions but I couldnt quite understand the answers by the one person who was answering as he had a thick (French Eastern European) accent so I finally addressed the whole group of people chatting away in the hallway, there were at least 20 to 30 of them by now. After raising my voice they finally shut up and when I asked them who they were, a woman said they all belonged to a charity of some kind but I didnt catch the cause, it sounded like a name of a disease that I had never heard before. They seemed offended that I couldnt make sense of it and didnt answer any more of my other questions:
Why are you here
Why do you think you can enter my garden and house without me agreeing to it
What needs to be done in the cellar
Why are you using our back garden
What was the tent about
Would they just have broken in if we would have been out

Then I started to explain that they probably thought that I was rude for being so direct with my questions but as they obviously all knew all Germans were like that and them coming in here without any explanation was a lot ruder anyway

I was so angry that I was glad when I finally woke up after that last attempt of trying to get answers by being polite.
