I was digging through old external hard drives this past week, full of things I backed up off of CD-ROMs I burned in the early 2000s and I was really struck by what these photos I have taken mean to me now, 20+ years later. Windows into my own past. I have documented my entire adult life and some of my teenage years. This isnt exactly unique anymore, now that everyone has a camera in their pocket all the time, but also, people are always talking about data loss. Their phone breaks and they lose all their photos. But I have always backed things up in triplicate and I continue to back up my oldest stuff to new hard drives periodically, so I can really get lost in my own past sometimes.
Environmental Portraits
The photos that are the most interesting to me to look back on are the candid shots and the environmental portraits. Sure Ive taken a lot of styled and posed and edited photos, and been creative and experimental and Im glad to have done all of it. Im glad to have silly sexy pictures of myself when I was young and to have let myself be weird and ugly and messy and goofy, too. But I wish I had taken even more environmental self portraits. Environmental portraits are just, someone in a place that it is natural for them to be, at home, at work, at play, in their real life surroundings. I also love to take pictures of other people and not have them turn, and look, and smile. Keep doing what youre doing! You see this style a lot in documentary and photojournalism. Its not AS common in in self portraiture, its bending the documentary aspect a bit that Im both behind and in front of the camera, but I do feel like it makes for very honest photos of these times in my life.
I have always thought of this practice as a diary, which is why I started calling myself a photographer diarist. Im making something for myself to remember more than content for other people to consume. But it is fun to share stuff, and I thought it would be nice to go through my archives and put together a series of (mostly environmental) self portraits in chronological order and share a little bit of my 24 year diary with yall.

Rating a series, like a manga or anime, on a whole is much easier than tackling it chapter by chapter, or episode by episode.

Elle est morte il y a quelques annes maintenant et nous pleurons son vocation.
Peut-tre que l'ide de reprendre un chien fait place dans notre esprit petit petit, pour apporter de la joie dans ces temps difficiles que nous vivons.

Starting transition slowly. Got patches for a month at low dosage. Too early to feel or look any different. I kinda feel more relaxed but its probably because the process of getting it is finished. Hoping for the best!

Photographer Diane Arbus has a show at the Met. She let people politely "gawk" at freaks, dwarves, and sideshow performers. That's one of the unique things about photography it lets people stare at other people without being impolite. I also like her Axiom: "a photo is a secret about a secret."

04/03/2023 - "Never a frown with golden brown"
Why I would choose the Strangler's Golden brown for my autobiography first sentence: a rememberence of peace and a call for help reminiscing how heroin addiction shaped me, for better and worse
because nobody seem to care what i post here anyway, i will link some very "private" thoughts, extremely hard to digest. yet, i do feel cognix made a great work at tackling them all... so...
if you (dear crazy reader) want a deep and very scary dive into my thoughts (or what the voice2text could gather from it, anyway) today:
the dive goes way beyond what i started to write at ahoxus.org/glc inclusive.
Getting ahead of myself because I just love sitting down at my desk and making these layouts so much. X) Enjoying this red + chartreuse colour scheme! :blobhug2:

Diary of Anne Frank 2/23/1944:
The best remedy for those who are frightened, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere they can be alone, alone with the sky, nature and God. For then and only then can you feel that everything is as it should be and that God wants people to be happy amid nature's beauty and simplicity. As long as this exists, and that should be forever, I know that there will be solace for every sorrow, whatever the circumstances. I firmly believe that nature can bring comfort to all who suffer. Oh, who knows, perhaps it won't be long before I can share this overwhelming feeling of happiness with someone who feels the same as I do.
