Boosting work engagement through a simple smartphone diary

How can people in the U.S. now document the political and societal changes What about Syria Sudan Ukraine Gaza Millions worldwide are experiencing intense change. Write, take photos, share if possible. Share someone elses story if they cant.

This call to action motivated Annes writing even more. She had been in hiding since July 1942 at the time of this call to action. Writing is an act of resistance. Documentation is resistance.

On 28 March 1944, there was a radio announcement that Anne Frank heard: If posterity is to fully appreciate what we as a people have endured and overcome in these years, then we need just the simple items: a diary, letters from a worker in Germany.

A sunny autumn day. I'm cycling to the bus station. A loud call from a bush at the side of the road: prrick yiu. Sounds almost like a coot. I turn arround to investigate. A black woodpecker flies out of the bush and away over the open meadow.

i dont know what it is about "no, im not a human" that captivates me so much. it's a game where you don't leave the house because of an apocalyptic event where strange beings try to invade your home. daily fear and panic from the television. hints about who might or might not be an enemy based on physical traits that in any other time would be benign. the paranoia that someone might try to kill you at night. the impact of global warming causing people to burn at daytime. the anxiety of testing someone - they're showing signs, but could they just be innocent

i don't know.
i've played through the game three times now, and it won't leave my head. i'm about to do a fourth playthrough. the game really touches me emotionally, and i cannot quite tell why.

Journal Week 43, October 2025

It's been quite a week. I tried to push myself to get some exercises in, but also focused on getting proper rest as well. Some appointments, like physio, some grocery shopping, like going to Germany to get things for my parents and myself, and some hard garden work with my bestie. The weather was a lot like my emotional state of mind... Some moments, there was sun, others there was rain, we definitely had times where there was quite a bit of wind (of course when we were working in the garden with the anti root fabric). But we were fortunate that the Friday turned out to be less wet than the prediction had forecast at the start of the week. Colder, wetter, less sun... I guess autumn weather really arrived now. Though I do hope for some good weather this Friday, as bestie was/is supposed to come over and help me with the garden work... Quick links to the days of the week: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday.

"After with great pleasure lying a great while talking and sporting in bed with my wife (for we have been for some years now, and at present more and more, a very happy couple, blessed be God), I got up and to my office."

Wow, what a sentence. Structurally it disorients us. Substantively it informs us. Humanly it cheers us up. Layer upon layer of meaning.

It is sentences such as this that make Pepys Pepys. A veritable micro story, in one single sentence. Franz Kafka could have written it.

As always with Pepys, the slight deviations from regular grammar & style only add sharpness to the writing.
